Carroll Soil and Water is pleased to work with MWCD to offer the producers of the District multiple cost share programs to help offset the cost associated with incorporating conservation best management practices. The dark green areas of the map are above the lake watershed. The light green areas are above the dry dam. The red areas are outside of MWCD boundaries.
Cover Crop Cost Share:
The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) will be continuing their cover crop cost share program for 2023. Fields that are located within the MWCD in Carroll County can receive $12 per acre cost share regardless of seeding method or termination method. Participants may schedule an appointment to fill out applications. Fields will be ranked to determine funding. Application must be accompanied by:

Livestock Exclusion Fencing:
100 years ago, farmers had no choice but to utilize streams to water livestock. Today, we know there are better alternatives that protect our soil and water resources. Thanks to the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District and the Fish & Wildlife Service, Carroll SWCD is excited to offer 100% cost share on approved livestock stream exclusion fencing projects for farmers within the jurisdictional boundaries of MWCD. The program can pay up to $10,000 per producer for stream exclusion fencing, improved crossings, and the development of off-stream watering systems. For more information, call 330-627-9852 to set up a site visit to identify your resource concerns and how this project might improve your operation. |
Critical Area Seeding:
In partnership with Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD), Carroll Soil and Water Conservation District is providing incentive for producers to seed high-risk erosion areas in permanent vegetation (for 3 years per this program’s guidelines). The areas being targeted are the concentrated flow paths through corn, soybean and wheat fields where an engineered grass waterway is not practical, typically due to small drainage areas (less than 10 acres) or small field sizes. The project proposal will require landowners to maintain the installed critical area for at least 3 years from the time of planting. By requiring this baseline, it ensures that producers will have the opportunity to observe the benefits over several years, rather than quickly converting the ground back into crops. The goal is that after seeing the benefits for several years, through varying yearly weather patterns and diverse conditions, farmers will be likely to continue to maintain these areas long term. Experience has shown that once producers observe the conservation and economic benefits of these types of practices firsthand, they are more likely to continue to apply them across their operations. Cost share rate is 100% with $500 per acre, not to exceed 1 acre per participant. Cost share will not exceed actual receipts for the seeding.
